LEVADURA. PROGRAMME RESIDENCIES FOR CREATORS IN SCHOOLS

Is an educational programme involving residencies for creators/educators in which students, teachers and artists work together horizontally towards the creation of an artistic project. This innovative educational programme is carried out in public and state-controlled schools, art centres and on the street. Key concepts in creation are introduced in the classroom and are developed actively, working together as a team.

AIMS

“Elementary students understand contemporary art as a complex process”

Long duration

We extend the traditional amount of time and the level of depth of students’ visits to cultural institutions.

Art is a process

We underscore the process-based nature of contemporary creation, highlighting the various phases involved in the making of an artistic project: incubation, design and production, as well as the process of legitimisation entailed by exhibiting in a public creation centre.

Active role

We create a creation community made up of students, the teacher and the artist, viewing students and teachers as artists and empowering them to the same level of cultural production.

Stress the role of creativity

Creativity as a key factor in the intellectual development not just of artists but also of students and teachers.

COLLABORATORS

Four municipal centres – Matadero Madrid, Medialab Prado, CentroCentro and Conde Duque – are participating in the project, which is an initiative of Madrid City Council and Banco Santander Foundation.

Levadura is a project developed by the Disruptive Education Group run by Matadero Madrid and the association Pedagogías Invisibles as part of Matadero Madrid’s Critical Thinking Programme.
